to me, personal style is just a constant flow of trial and error. sometimes outfits work, sometimes they don’t. when i went to get dressed for this weekend’s casual bbq at my parents’ house, i tried to think a little outside of the box. despite my desire to wear my favorite denim and a big cozy sweater, the reality is, it’s still nearly 90-degrees here with a whole lot of humidity. so i knew it was best i reach for light-weight fabrics in an equally as light color palette.
when i spotted these two striped pieces in my closet, i had an aha! moment. while they don’t match exactly, they are definitely very similar so i thought, “why not see if they could create the illusion of a jumpsuit?” what sold me was the addition of the belt bag which seemed to pull the whole look together (the cognac leather complimented the tortoise buttons). i added my favorite straw accessories and added a bright lip and voila, an original look i have actually never worn before! it just goes to show you that a) shopping your closet is always a good idea (and it’s free!) and b) never be afraid to experiment a little when it comes to personal style. you may just surprise yourself!
