little joys

found this here and fell in love:

Watch the sunrise at least once a year, put a lot of marshmallows in your hot chocolate, lie on your back and look at the stars, never buy a coffee table you can’t put your feet on, never pass up a chance to jump on a trampoline, don’t overlook life’s small joys while searching for the big ones. ~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

if there has been an underlying trend of my 2012, it has been actively pursuing “the big in the little;” finding contentment in the oftentimes overlooked and unglamorous moments of life before getting caught up in the items of a grander scale. a day spent painting the walls of your boyfriend’s apartment, catching the evening seaworld fireworks display in the parking lot of home depot, walking hand in hand along the OB pier, receiving an email from an old friend out of the blue, realizing that yogurtland has your favorite flavor on tap this month, donning your favorite anchor dress to work on a friday morning. there is always joy to be found amongst the routine and seemingly insignificant, if only we take the time to find it.

so i charge you, take time to find some little in the big of your weekend. stop and smell the roses (or if you’re like me, the fresh baked cinnamon rolls in the bakery aisle of alberton’s). pick a dandelion, make a wish, and blow. when you pass a jungle gym in a park while walking your dog, stop and swing for a minute or five. get that extra pump of sugar-free vanilla in your starbuck’s iced americano. wear red lipstick because it makes you feel good (and makes your teeth look whiter!) and those sky high heels, too (well, maybe not you, gents). whatever it is, take the time to enjoy it in its entirety. because those moments are just as worthy of your attention as those monumental milestones you’re hoping to cross off your life’s list, too.
