okay valentine’s day, i see you creeping. you’re officially a week away and despite the fact that i have traditionally not cared for you, well that’s not entirely true, i’m very much a fan of your once-a-year abundance of conversation hearts, but on the whole, i kind of find you a bit trite and overrated. but regardless of my feelings toward your ability to make single girls everywhere feel a little like wearing head to toe black and watching a really great slasher movie (sex and the city movie reference anyone?), i still find your red, pink, and heart-adorned clothing, accessories, and/or other goodies pretty endearing. so whether you find yourself with or without a valentine this year, do me a favor and treat yo self to something special. i mean, i know i will.
which is why i’ve taken it upon myself (because i’m a giver like that) to round up a few dozen items that i deem to be treat-yo-self-worthy. and if you’re a gent reading this (again, i cannot tell you how much i appreciate you tuning in, even if it was on accident while you were “perusing” (see also: creepin’) on facebook. however you got here, i’m just happy you’re here), i’m not gonna lie, if i were your girl i wouldn’t hate receiving one (or all?) of these items. so you know, take notes.
treat yo closet:
i mean as if you needed a reason to purchase some pink polka dots. psh.
kind of in love with the delicate quality of this cami. perfect for the office or your next date night or you know, any day that ends in “y.”
heart-printed frilly skirt? you had me at heart-printed and frilly.
wearing a jersey pencil skirt is basically like wearing pajamas. except with a pencil skirt, you’re not offending anyone at the office (unless “the office” is indeed your home and then i’m super jealous and don’t want to talk to you anymore).
who needs a LBD when you can have a LRD? i don’t know, maybe people who don’t look good in the color red? lucky for them, this dress comes in blue and black, too.
maxi dresses are kind of the best -you can still feel girly because you’re wearing a dress, but you know, it’s long enough to cover all of your lady parts and well, you can totally extend that whole minimal-leg-shaving thing because no one can see/feel your legs (not that they should be feeling your legs, gross). i see your judging eyes, but what’s the point in shaving in late winter if you’re going to get goosebumps like 2.5 seconds later? see? point proven.
treat yo iPhone (because naturally this should be its own category):
who doesn’t love a heart-covered iPhone case? exactly.
remember when chevrons were having the best year ever? turns out, they still kind of are.
i think these are peonies. i really like peonies, but all i can think of right now is a less-than-blog-appropriate joke from the five-year engagement. whoops.
treat yo jewelry box:
i mean, you should buy this on its name alone -baublebar bubblegum bauble bib. rubber baby buggy bumpers. try to say it five times fast. i dare you.
i’m not like “oh hey it’s my birthstone i have to get it,” but july babies, this ruby necklace is pretty awesome. and just to clarify i am not a july baby, i’m a june baby, i am just not super enthused about alexandrite or pearls (june birthstones, depending on who you consult). actually that’s a lie, i love pearls. and now we’re completely off topic.
i mean, i get it, no one is shelling out a cool $150 (with tax & shipping) for this little number but it was so pretty that i couldn’t not include it in the round-up.
and treat yo [insert cohesive category here] miscellaneous?:
remember when you were going to try to save the environment? i know, me too. i mean, i recycle and everything but i could totally do more to cut those poor rain forests some slack every now and then. so maybe i should treat myself to some reusable coffee mugs like these printed gems from world market? you’re welcome, mother earth.
i gave this print to my sweet B when she moved across the country from me last december. i remember thinking, maybe if i never tell her, i can just keep it for myself. because clearly i’m selfish (you agreed with that WAY too easily). anyway, i ended up giving it to her (see, you can change your tune now) but now i’m seriously contemplating of purchasing one of my own.
question: what are you going to do when your neck is cold and you’re not really into turtlenecks because they’re super unflattering on you (they’re super unflattering on me, too)? you’re going to reach for a scarf, that’s what. and, i mean, if you had to reach for a scarf, i think this one from madewell would be a pretty darn good option.
i’ve been really into carrying over-sized clutches for my main purse as of late. i know, it’s kind of unlike me but you know what? it really helps streamline your purse contents. i find the bigger the bag, the more i think is necessary to fill it. which pretty much results in me lugging around an extra 10 lbs on my right shoulder (do you favor one shoulder over the other? just me? cool). also, i’m pretty sure i walk lop-sided now. it’s fine. anyway this clutch from gap comes in a lot of colors and is just kind of perfect.
when all else fails, nothing beats a mani/pedi or a visit to the jimbo’s pre-made food section. okay so maybe the last part is catered to yours truly, but you have no idea how good their sesame tofu drops are.
however you choose to treat yo self, just be sure you do indeed treat yo self, mmmk?
