happy friday again, loves. as previously noted, i’m headed out of town this weekend and i couldn’t be more excited about it. but before i hit the highway, i wanted to leave you with the six things i’m in love with this weekend eve. so distfrutate (that’s a little spanish for you. it means “enjoy yourself.” putting that degree to use since 2014, y’all).
one || i’ll have one eight of these please and thank you.
i mean, what is it about summer that just makes me crave s’mores? maybe it’s the memories of roasting marshmallows over bonfires at moonlight beach as a kid. or maybe it’s the fact that s’mores are delicious and i crave them regardless of the season. (i think it’s the latter). while i’m always more than happy to have my hands and face covered by their ooey gooey stickiness, i am loving this jarred (and compact!) version found on oh joy! blog. the recipe is quite extensive but i’d venture to say the end result is well worth the extra labor.
two || swimsuits. the very word sends shudders down my spine. but ready or not, summer is upon us and that means shimmying our lady bits into some barely there swimwear. the ladies of a beautiful mess blog (one of my favorites) recently posted a guide to navigating the dreaded swimsuit shopping trip and i’m totally digging their retro recommendations. particularly this one. if the thought of bathing suit shopping still has you running for the hills, might i charge you with a little piece of advice i gleaned from the sage fashion blogger courtney kerr? “if you can’t tone it, tan it.” so before you jump in front of an unforgiving dressing room mirror, get yourself a spray tan. i speak from experience, being a lesser shade of pale definitely makes the whole bathing suit shopping experience a lot more enjoyable.
three || new emojis are coming our way! you probably already heard about this seeing as it’s one of the biggest news stories of the week (i’m kidding, sort of), but the unicode consortium announced that more than 250 new emoji will be added to its current library of symbols. among the ones i’m most excited for? the “sleuth or spy” (for when you want to confess that you were just stalking your crush on instagram), “fog” (for when i’m talking to my friends in san francisco) and “black droplet” (for when i want to refer to the infamous single black tear from this episode of the hills). which emoji are you most excited about?
four || sun’s out, abs out. okay that’s not really how the saying goes (it’s sun’s out, guns out or sun’s out, buns out), but let’s pretend like it is. because this summer, i want to be all about the crop top. i absolutely adore the whole cropped blouse with a high-waisted skirt look and after seeing courtney kerr’s (weird, she’s showing up a lot in this post) recent outfit post featuring this cropped chambray ruffle beauty from viva aviva, i’m fairly convinced i’m going to need to find myself a more affordable alternative. STAT.
five || for the two of us who aren’t getting their television-fix during the summer network hiatus with episodes of the new season of orange is the new black, i have a program recommendation that might appease your need for must-see-tv until september. one word: graceland. despite what the name suggests, it’s actually not about the iconic museum dedicated to the king himself, elvis pressley. it’s a new(ish) show on the usa network that follows a team of undercover federal agents living in a safe house in malibu. only in its sophomoric season, it would be relatively easy to, say, binge-watch the previously aired 13 episodes from season one in an effort to be all caught up for season two which just premiered last wednesday. i mean, hypothetically speaking of course. because if you’re uncertain of whether you can justifiably heed my counsel given my repertoire of television programming (i get it, it’s fine), i should note that this cast is, if nothing else, ridiculously good-looking (looking at you, aaron tveit).
six || just call me a lemming because i, too, am jumping on the “let’s read the book before the movie comes out in september” bandwagon and have queued up this is where i leave you on my nook for this weekend’s poolside reading. after having trouble really getting into a book since finishing the husband’s secret earlier this year, i’m excited to be excited about a book again. and after a recent visit to barnes & noble (side note: i really love bookstores), i discovered two more titles to add to my “must read” list: the vacationers by emma straub and jennifer weiner’s (whose twitter account during the bachelor/bachelorette seasons is always on point) all fall down. three cheers for being all literary. after all, readers are leaders.
so on that note, get out there and enjoy your weekend. and maybe read a book.
