why do the short work-weeks always feel 1,000 years long? we made it to friday, kids (cue your happy dance)! for the most part, i have a pretty low-key weekend ahead (and i like it that way). hoping the open schedule will leave S and i time to finish off the final episodes of breaking bad (we only have five episodes left of the series), allow us to sneak in a trip to home goods to look for a few more living room decorations, and catch an early matinee of mad max: fury road.
but before i send you off, here’s what i was crushing on this week:
one || devil wears prada 2.0. last weekend, S and i made a compromise (relationships are all about those, right?): he would see pitch perfect 2 with me, if i saw mad max: fury road with him. so last sunday he endured two plus hours of acapella antics and i’ll return the favor by accompanying him to a movie that has been described as being in ALL CAPS DUE TO ITS SHEER INTENSITY. anyway, during the previews for pitch perfect 2, there was a trailer for anne hathaway’s new movie, the intern. it stars robert deniro, and for all intents and purposes, is essentially a reboot of the devil wears prada, except this time, hathaway has become her own version of miranda priestly. normally i’m hathaway averse, but somehow i’m okay with her in these kind of roles. the movie doesn’t come out until the fall, but it has already been added to my list of must sees.
two || stove top magic. between the two of us, S and i consume a LOT of popcorn. our favorites include (but aren’t limited to) boom chicka pop, trader joe’s reduced guilt air pop, and popcornopolis’ “nearly naked” variety which we treat ourselves to the 1305819182192 ounce bag at costco every so often. after reviewing the package for ingredients one day, S figured out we could essentially recreate the latter using popcorn kernels, coconut oil, a sprinkling of salt, and a pot. in my 29 years of life, i had never made popcorn on the stove. until this week. S demonstrated the magic that happens when you throw a dollop of coconut oil and a handful of kernels in a pot atop a hot stove. pop, pop, pop, and voila we had popcorn. i’m hoping our newest kitchen development frees up our popcorn spending habits for more practical things. like jeans. segways into number three…
three || embrace the high-waist. last weekend, S and i stepped into madewell to check-out their latest arrivals (naturally). though i left empty-handed, i did try on a pair of their high-waisted jeans i had heard so much about. being so long-waisted, i was concerned the higher rise would look off-putting but was happily surprised that it was quite the contrary. not only were the jeans extremely flattering, but the soft slightly spandex fabric was crazy comfortable. since jean shopping in general can be a traumatic experience, i was happy to know that there is a rise and fit at madewell that works well with my body type. needless to say, i want them in every color and wash.
p.s. see how my friend styled her high-waisted denim. i plan on creating a similar post soon.
four || dream decor. with the living room redecoration well under way, i’ve been searching for inspiration to help me finalize the look i’m hoping to achieve. and then i came across this photo from the interior of a loft overseas and i think i know how i’d like to style my living room wall, now. swoon.
five || peanuts & crackerjacks. a few weeks back i talked about how S can get padres tickets through his work. well this is the weekend we get to use them! we’re headed to the padres vs. pirates game tomorrow night and i’m pretty pumped to spend an evening at the ballpark. and by “spend an evening at the ballpark” i mean eat all of the delicious offerings petco boasts -far beyond the simple hot dog and bag of peanuts. seriously, the last game we went to, i had SUSHI. good eats aside, i can’t think of anything more quintessentially “summer” than an evening of baseball. here’s hoping we take home a W.
(from last year’s baseball season)
six || hbd momma! as i mentioned yesterday, today is my momma’s birthday.
