two things putting me in the holiday spirit

with christmas just two days away and new year’s eve, a week after that, it’s high time i get into the holiday spirit. truthfully with the twins very much aware of the magic of the season, i’ve been in the spirit since the beginning of december! we’ve had an absolute blast doing anything and everything san diego has to offer to celebrate all things christmas.

in terms of the actual celebrations (christmas day and new year’s eve), we’re about as casual as they come. we’re a “wear jeans and come over whenever” kind of family on christmas and in terms of the last evening of the year? it should come as no surprise that we celebrate east coast time (9:00 p.m.) if i can even make it to then. and while i wouldn’t change a thing about our holiday vibe, i would be lying if i said i wasn’t craving just a hint of something to put a little sparkle in my step.

enter the two purchases i made recently that are doing just that. and the best thing about them? they’re both under $50ish.

first up are these kitten heels. they come in eight colors and have enough sparkle to make anyone feel like their very own disco ball. they’re a hair over $50 but feel like they cost triple that amount and for a high-heel protester like myself, they’re the perfect height at 2.4″. maybe i’ll pair them with my current uniform of a puff-sleeve top and horseshoe jeans for a jeujed-up casual new year’s eve outfit to wear… around my house.

the other instant holiday mood-booster purchase is a tube of ilia’s color block lipstick in flame. i feel like we’re all on the never-ending quest to find the perfect red lipstick. i’ve tried a few over the years (the chokehold the mac cosmetics beauty counter had on me in high school, lol) but as a big clean beauty subscriber, i think ilia’s flame is IT for me. described as a “fire red with warm undertones,” i feel like this color would look amazing on everyone. i recently wore it with a simple white tee and jeans (seen above) and instantly felt fancier as a result. for someone who doesn’t own any red or green in her wardrobe, a red lip is the perfect way to feel holiday without feeling like mrs. claus.

i get a small commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post. thank you for supporting the brands that keep this blog up and running.
