i’m so glad we live in a world with octobers.

l.m. montgomery | anne of green gables

while i certainly adore the entire fall season, i can’t help but agree with montgomery on this one. there’s just something about october that i love. the abundance of pumpkins and candy corn might have something to do with it…

anyway, happy first week/weekend of october, loves. for those of you who are already experiencing the first signs of fall, please relish in it for the both of us, looks like socal is in for another warm weekend. and just when i thought it was safe to put on pants…

one || jean-ius. speaking of pants, like the infamous white jeans search (which finally ended here), i have also been on the hunt for a decent pair of black denim for what feels like a decade (that’s probably a bit exaggerated, i think i’ve looked for like 3 months). after seeing a friend’s recommendation of madewell’s skinny skinny version, i was convinced that i, too might need to bite the bullet and make the investment. but then one of ann taylor loft’s many promotional emails landed in my inbox -“40% off EVERYTHING” it cried. so i took the bait, clicked the link, and in a matter of seconds found myself perusing their collection of black denim. i landed upon their “relaxed skinny jean in asphalt black” and since no one wants to feel as though their skinny jeans double as sausage casing, i was intrigued by the “more easygoing cut through the hip” description. i bought a pair (p.s. they are pretty tts, but loft jeans are notorious for stretching out, so consider sizing down) and one slip up over my lady bits and i was smitten. i have no doubt they will become key players in my winter wardrobe. most notably paired with this sweater and these flats.

two || on tuesdays we wear pink. sorry regina, but pink-wearing has moved up a day, at least at studio barre. in honor of breast cancer awareness in the month of october, our studio is encouraging clients (and instructors) to think pink when getting dressed for tuesday classes. every time you wear pink on “ta ta tuesday” (yep, it’s a thing), make a donation, or make a limited-edition apparel purchase (we have the cutest new pink tanks in the boutique), you’ll earn raffle tickets for our weekly raffle prize. additionally, classes are FREE for the entire month for all breast cancer survivors. since tuesdays are my day to teach the 5:30 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. classes, i’m especially excited about this month’s theme & promo. not only is breast cancer awareness a cause i’m passionate about (parts 1, 2 & 3), but as a girlie girl, i’m just pumped to have another excuse to wear pink.

three || life is brew-tiful. in case you didn’t hear, monday was national coffee day. or as S and i like to call it “every other day of the year.” the line was too long at starbucks that morning so i was remiss in truly celebrating in style, but if it’s any consolation S did make us an evening cup from our french press -which, in case you were curious (you’ve been waiting with bated breath, haven’t you?), is working out quite well. you know, aside from that crack running down the front of it (we call it “rustic”).  also, this video from monday’s jimmy kimmel show is absolutely hilarious. for anyone who has had their named botched by a starbuck’s barista (raises hand):

four || dress to impress. i will be attending two weddings over the next few months and in typical girl fashion, i feel like i have nothing to wear. my silk romper is always put on standby in these types of situations, but with the number of times i have worn that little number to celebrate a friend’s nupts (i think we’re nearing 5), i’m thinking it might be time for me to invest in another piece of wedding-going attire. while you can never go wrong with a standard LBD, i’m kind of itching for something a bit more original. as of now (and after a copious internet perusal), i’ve narrowed down my top two contenders to this silk dress from madewell and this emerald lace romper from zara. while i’m not quite sure if either truly scream “wedding attendant,” they do scream “adorable” and for that reason, i’m willing to take both frocks for a spin in the dressing room in the not so distant future.

five || set my heart aBLAZE. so last saturday S treated me to pizza at blaze -a “fast fire’d custom built artisianal pizza” place with franchise locations all over the state (and parts of the country, too). not only do they offer gluten-free crust, but vegan cheese as well. once you’ve solidified your cheese and crust options, you pick a sauce, a protein, and as many veggie toppings as your little heart desires. think of it as the subway of pizza places, or chipotle, if you prefer a burrito over a foot-long. whatever you liken it to, the place is amazing. i’m not gonna lie, my customized creation was better than the gluten-free version i tasted at blue ribbon two months ago. and that may or may not have something to do with the fact that i covered my pie with 10 of the 15 non-meat offered toppings. whatever, #sorryimnotsorry. p.s. a new encinitas location is opening today!

six || gone baby gone. no that’s another ben affleck movie. this time it’s the girl that’s gone, not the baby. S and i have a date with ben, rosamund, NPH, and tyler perry on saturday for the long-anticipated movie adaptation of gillian flynn’s gone girl. having read the book last year, i’m so excited to see how david fincher has brought flynn’s haunting tale to life. and from the reviews i’ve read thus far, he and the rest of the cast do not disappoint.

Hi cutie. I thought I’d recognized the Bate’s Nut Farm photo (your mom is amazing with a camera in hand!). Also, I love the green romper – really, beyond words. I love the laciness and emerald color is gorgeous. Gee, which one did I prefer? Have a terrific weekend.
