it’s friday, i’m in love || 8/14/15

happy weekend, love bugs! i can’t believe it’s the middle of august already! this summer has absolutely flown by. but before we start trading our iced coffees for all things pumpkin-spiced just yet, i’m looking forward to enjoying one of summer’s simple pleasures -a day at the races tomorrow followed by a momma & me day at the spa on sunday. i can’t wait to get this party started, but before i go, here are six things i loved this week!

one || shampoozled. so last friday at my hair appointment tovi (my amazing stylist) gave my locks some serious TLC. she probably chopped off a good two inches of dead ends and after a partial highlight, washed my hairs not once but twice to strip the half gallon of hairspray they were living under from the abundance of side braids. i began inquiring as to which products to utilize if i wanted to start letting my hair air dry and capture its natural wave. she first asked me what kind of shampoo and conditioner i was regularly employing. i sheepishly answered pantene pro v and immediately saw her face droop in disappointment. apparently i was doing my locks a complete disservice as pantene can be very drying, especially on my type of hair. WHOOPSIES POOPSIES. so to amend the situation ASAP, she recommended davines products, particularly the curl-enhancing shampoo and conditioner and a curl building syrum. not that my hair is particularly curly, but with a lot of natural wave, these products should smooth any frizz and help achieve a more wavy finish. i ordered them from amazon at the beginning of the week and i can’t wait for them to arrive!

two || spaaaamazing. my momma and i are way overdue for a little mother/daugther bonding time so we’re heading to the spa at rancho bernardo inn for a little pampering on sunday. i haven’t been back to RBI since M1 & M2 got married there nearly SIX years ago so i’m excited to spend the afternoon enjoying its serene and scenic atmosphere. i’m also very much looking forward to an hour-long massage and of course, above all else, a little QT with my favorite gal.

three || burnt. after seeing (and loving!) chef last fall, i was surprised to hear of a similar movie starring bradley cooper set to open this october (the 23rd to be exact). formerly entitled “adam jones,” the movie was recently renamed burnt and is basically another redemption story of a chef who destroyed his career with diva behavior and drugs only to clean up his act in pursuit of culinary excellence. sounds pretty similar to the version starring jon favreau but i’m a sucker for anything chef/food related so i’m in.

four || cardi party. i’ve never been much of a cardigan girl (i much prefer a good pullover instead), but after seeing this striped coat/cardigan in loft’s latest collection of new arrivals, i may be singing a different tune. how cute would it be worn over a white tee and grey skinny jeans? fall, i’m so ready for you!

five || #myanthrophoto. you GUYS. something very exciting happened this week! after posting a photo of my recent romper photo shoot (compliments of S, my talented photographer) on my style instagram account (@stylebyshawnaleeann), @anthropologie took notice. i woke up thursday morning with a request to use my photo in future anthropologie campaigns (think on their website, instagram, and other forms of social media). !!!!! — slight freaking out and a string of “ohmygawwwwwws” ensued. and then a mere hours later, look who made an appearance on the anthro website?

needless to say, my inner fashionista may have just had her best week ever.

six || and away they go. i’ve got my big hat and my eye on the most cleverly named horse in anticipation of S and my trip to the del mar races tomorrow. the best part? S’s parents are also joining us for an afternoon of betting and boxed quinellas! while i’m fairly certain my $2 bets won’t have me channeling my best cuba gooding, jr. impression (“show me the money!”) i am very much looking forward to a day at the track with a few of my favorite people … and taking many more pictures than we did during last year’s visit.
